Here
at Ipswich Pub Poker we are proud to raise money to help support
local charities. And all whilst having a damn good game of cards
- talk about win/win!
Poker, the law and charity:
Our Season final tournaments are played as charity events. This
is the only way Ipswich Pub Poker are able to offer a prize
pool in excess of £100 without obtaining a commercial
gambling licence. This also means we must adhere to a strict
set of rules.
No commercial gain can be made from running a charity poker
event. This means that Ipswich Pub Poker may not profit in any
way from running the final events.
Players that qualify in the top
spots of our leagues are all invited to attend our season
final.
Extra donations are requested on the day, but as always these
are optional! We have a suggested donation of £4, and
for an 8 hour tournament with a£900 prize pool we think
that's great value!!
Throughout the season we ask players for a donation of £1
per game. This money goes into the charity fund for the season.
By law any reasonable expense incurred in running the event
may then be deducted from this fund. This could include (among
others) hire of the venue, catering and the prize pool itself.
To make sure that the maximum amount of money collected is
donated to the nominated charity, Ipswich Pub Poker ensures
there is no charge for the venue or for catering. However
we do deduct the prize pool from the fund.
As you can see this means that Ipswich Pub Poker does not
profit in any way from members donations!
